Is 100mg of THC a Lot? How to Read High-Dose Drink Labels
The ShipSips TeamShare
Yes. 100mg of THC is a lot. It is ten times the 10mg serving many regulated markets use, and far more than anyone new to THC should take at once. On a drink label, though, "100mg" usually describes the whole can or bottle, not one serving. Understanding that difference is the most important thing on this page.
Below we explain how to read high-milligram drink labels, how 100mg compares with everyday doses, and how to handle a multi-serving can if you buy one. This is general information, not medical advice.
Is 100mg of THC a lot for one serving?
As a single serving, 100mg is a very large amount. For scale:
- Health Canada's guidance for cannabis you eat or drink is to "start with a low level of THC: for example, 2.5 mg or less." 100mg is forty times that.
- California's adult-use rules cap edible cannabis products at 10 milligrams of THC per serving and 100 milligrams per package (Cal. Code Regs. tit. 4, §17304). In that market, 100mg is the most a whole package may contain, split into ten servings.
Those are reference points, not federal rules for hemp drinks. They make the same point: 100mg is meant to be shared out over many servings, not taken at once.
Is 100 mg of THC a lot in a can? Reading per-container labels
When a THC soda or seltzer says 100mg, it is almost always the total for the can. What matters is how many servings the label divides it into. A few examples from what we carry, as listed on each product page:
- Habit OG Sodas: 100mg Delta-9 THC per 12oz can, portioned into 20 servings of 5mg. The product page says to pour a measured serving over ice.
- Uncle Skunks Chronic Craft Sodas: 100mg hemp-derived Delta-9 THC per 12oz can, meant to be poured over ice in measured servings.
- Sherpa 100mg seltzers: 100mg hemp-derived Delta-9 THC per 12oz can, flagged on the product page as a high-potency can: check the milligrams before pouring.
- Looper D9 Soda Pop: 50mg per 12oz can, which the label lists as 10 servings of 5mg.
Bigger formats go higher still. Habit's syrups hold 750mg per bottle, Liquid Lava bottles hold 500mg split into 25 servings of about 20mg each, and the 10mg-per-pour Sherpa and Willie's 750ml bottles hold about 170mg in total. None of those are single-serving products.
Is 100mg of edibles a lot compared with drinks?
The milligrams mean the same thing whether the THC is in a gummy or a can. Health Canada's guidance treats cannabis you eat or drink together: it can take up to two hours to begin to feel the effects and up to four hours to feel the full effects. With 100mg in one container, that slow build is exactly why measuring matters. It is easy to drink more than you meant to before the first serving has registered.
Edible packages and drinks differ in one practical way: a bag of gummies is already split into pieces, while a can of soda is one liquid. You have to do the splitting yourself.
Is a 100mg edible strong? How to handle a multi-serving can
- Measure, don't sip from the can. Pour a measured serving into a glass. For a 100mg can labeled 20 servings, one serving is a twentieth of the can.
- Close and refrigerate the rest if the container reseals, or plan to share it among adults.
- Start low, go slow. Start at the label's single serving or less, and wait well before having another. Effects and timing vary from person to person.
- Don't combine it with alcohol, and never drive or operate machinery after consuming THC.
- Store it away from kids and pets. A soda can looks like a soda can.
Not medical advice: if you take medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a health condition, talk to a doctor before using THC.
Who are 100mg drinks for?
High-milligram cans make sense for adults who already know their dose and want a multi-serving format, or for groups pouring from one can. If you're still finding your number, a single-serving can is simpler: there's nothing to measure.
When you're ready to browse, the 25mg+ THC drinks shelf holds the higher-milligram cans and bottles, and THC sodas collects the Looper, Uncle Skunks and Habit sodas. Read each label before you pour.

FAQ
Is 100mg of THC a lot for a beginner?
Yes, far too much for a single serving. Beginners should start with a small fraction, such as the 2.5mg Health Canada suggests as a starting point, and wait before having more.
Is 100mg of THC a lot if it's split into servings?
It depends on the serving. A 100mg can split into 20 servings is 5mg per serving, which is a low to moderate amount for most adults. The key is to measure each pour.
Is 100mg of edibles a lot?
Yes, as a single dose. Regulated edible markets such as California's allow 100mg per package, split into 10mg servings, which shows how much 100mg is.
Can I drink a whole 100mg THC soda?
The labels on the 100mg sodas we carry describe them as multi-serving. Drinking the whole can at once is many servings at one time. Follow the serving size on the label.
